Why We Designed A Creative Space

Written by Anthony Ongaro

Creative Space

It wasn’t in our original plan, but our decision to design a creative space was intentional.

Yes, it was partly because of the podcast we’re starting.

We designed the creative space to better accommodate the new podcast. But that’s not the only reason.

Several years ago when I started Break the Twitch, it was just a side project. The website started as a way to share my own intentional journey through minimalism. It was something I was really passionate about while I was working full-time and based in Minneapolis.

New Office Tour & Upcoming New Project

Written by Anthony Ongaro

New Studio Tour Blog header

Over the past two weeks, Amy and I have been hard at work making our back office room into a more functional space (for the before, check out our practical minimalist house tour).

And we’re finally ready to show you the new digs.

We cleared everything out—including the giant white armoire that we took out in pieces—painted, built a DIY-hack using some IKEA furniture, set up our desks, and got more comfortable office chairs. There are still a few final touches, but we’re really happy with how it’s turned out.

Hope you enjoy the office tour!

The reason we did all this was because of the super secret project I mentioned earlier. Although, apparently it wasn’t all that secret as several people already guessed correctly.

We are starting a podcast.

Break the Twitch Podcast Cover

The Break the Twitch podcast is on minimizing distractions and doing more of what matters through minimalism, habits and creativity. As attention becomes more and more of a commodity, intentionality becomes crucial. Each week during the podcast season, I’ll be sharing conversations with humans from all walks of life on ways to minimize distractions, build habits and do more of what matters.

There have been more than a few asks and mentions on my starting a podcast throughout the years. A podcast was only a matter of time.

But what I’m most excited about is sharing the process of launching this new project with you—the steps I’m taking, the challenges and common questions. If you’re interested, check out considerations we thought about as we started the podcast and the tools we used to launch the podcast.

Behind The Scenes, April 2018

Written by Anthony Ongaro

April Updates

Welcome to the start of a new monthly series, Behind The Scenes (unless someone suggests a better name for it). In this video, I cover what we’ve been up to for the last month or so, and what you can expect in the near future from the blog and YouTube channel (hint: a tiny house wood-fired sauna)! I also share some resources, links, and updates on the soon-to-be-released audiobook as well!

Book Recommendations On Minimalism, Habits, and Creativity

Written by Anthony Ongaro

book recommendations

It’s hard to overstate the importance that reading has had in my life.

I remember focusing my attention on the nonfiction/personal development section of my favorite book stores back in high school, and that attraction still hasn’t left me. Some of the best things I’ve read were book recommendations from close friends who enjoyed reading them as well.

Many books have influenced my own perspective over the years and after the release of my own ebook, I’ve received many requests to share some of those book recommendations. Specifically, books on minimalism, habits, and creativity—the core principles of Break the Twitch and my work in these areas. This list will be updated as time goes on, so feel free to bookmark this page for later reference.

How To Start A Blog In 2021 (And Why You Should)

Written by Anthony Ongaro

How to start a blog

As I look back on the past several years, there is one decision that has been the most influential: when I decided to start a blog.

It wasn’t immediately clear how my life would change when I registered breakthetwitch.com on November 17 in 2015. But having a place to explore my intentional living journey while sharing and connecting with others has taken me to places I’ve never expected.

With all that I’ve learned and all that’s happened, I’d recommend you start a blog as well.

Why You Should Write Daily (Even If You’re Not A Writer)

Written by Anthony Ongaro

Write Daily

Flash back to my sixth grade English class and you’d see my teacher handing back one of my first written essay assignments. You’d see me look over the single page to find it covered in red ink, noting that the assignment “requires paragraphs” and needed “significant work.”

I felt my stomach sink and I remember wanting to disappear under my desk. I certainly wouldn’t have bet a dime that decades later, I’d be earning a living with writing like I am today.
